How Important is Nutrition for Your Breast Milk Supply?

The foods you eat during breastfeeding are vitally important for keeping a high supply that is nutritionally dense. After four years of breastfeeding, I’ve come to find some amazing foods and supplements that can increase your supply quickly!

Using lactogenic foods in your recipes can be a fast way to increase lactation naturally. While you are lactating your body’s primary focus is feeding your baby.

Ultimately, your body will continue to create breastmilk even if you undereat as it is primarily focused on nourishing your baby. But if you undereat or do not choose nutritionally dense foods, your breast milk supply will be less than it could be and the nutritional density of the breastmilk may be decreased.

These are some of the tastiest lactation boosting recipes around so I hope you find some new favorites! While breastfeeding it is important to nourish your body consistently throughout the day.

Breastfeeding makes you hungry! For me, even more than pregnancy does (except for that first trimester, I’m always voracious then).

To healthy-up any of these recipes that call for sugar to keep your waistline slim (or to help get it there again postpartum), you can always substitute it with an equal amount of stevia in the raw. Available in most grocery stores.
