What is a Keto Diet and How Does it Work?

The keto diet is the high-fat, low-carb diet that has been taking the world by storm for years now. Basically, this diet helps you burn stored fats instead of carbs for energy.

So, if you’re looking to lose a few extra pounds, help certain chronic diseases or ailments, and have more energy than ever before then this is the diet for you.

The way the Keto Diet works is by changing your body’s primary source of energy from carbs to fats by going into ketosis (hence the name of the diet) which keeps your blood sugar levels stable and reduces cravings for unhealthy food. Plus, research shows that ketogenic diets can help with epilepsy, cancer prevention, and Alzheimer’s.

What are the Benefits of a Keto Diet?

You can do the Keto Diet for years or do it short term (think a month or two) to reach weight loss goals. I’ve followed a strict Ketogenic Diet twice and had completely different experiences both times.

Want to jumpstart your healthy eating habits and get serious about weight loss? Then keto might just be the diet for you.

By drastically reducing carbs, increasing fat intake, and moderating protein, the ketogenic diet puts your body in a state of ketosis. From there, it can start burning fat for energy instead of carbs.

What’s great is that because the Keto Diet has become so popular you no longer have to sacrifice your favorite meals. The grocery store shelves abound with low carb options of candy, cakes, and breads.

The internet is filled with recipes like this that you can use to replace sweet treats you are craving with low carb options. Aside from mug cakes, fat bombs are my favorite treat to use to stick to my Keto Diet without feeling deprived. Check out 103 fat bomb recipes now.

When done right, following a keto diet can help stabilize hunger and cravings without turning into feeling utterly deprived. Plus some believe it has other health benefits too, like reduced inflammation and improved mental clarity.

How to Make a Keto Blueberry Mug Cake

blueberry keto mug cake

Making a keto blueberry mug cake is so ridiculously easy that it literally takes 3 minutes from start to finish. The most complicated and time-consuming part about the entire recipe is taking out all the right ingredients. It’s that easy.

You’ll need coconut flour, stevia in the raw sweetener, baking powder, an egg, avocado oil, vanilla extract, fresh blueberries, cream cheese, and a microwave-safe mug.

Making this low-carb mug cake recipe is basically just as simple as mixing all of these together in a bowl and then pouring it into the mug.

I’ve found that it works best to first add in the wet ingredients and whisk them. Then add the dry into the same bowl and whisk them in. Finally, you add in the softened cream cheese and blueberries and you guessed it: whisk them in as well.

From that point, you pour the mug cake batter into a microwave-safe mug or tiny Corningware dish (if you didn’t just make it in there in the first place). Pop it in the microwave and let your tasty treat bake. It only takes about 2 minutes to make.

Cook it for one minute and check its doneness. Cook it for either another minute or in 30-second increments at this point until the center of the top of the cake is cooked.

If you are following a low carb diet I cannot say enough good things about mug cakes and fat bombs. They are the key components to helping to keep you from feeling deprived or like you’re missing out when following such a restrictive diet.

This blueberry keto mug cake turns out just right. Not too eggy (some mug cake recipes do) and perfectly creamy. It tastes as if a traditional vanilla cake and blueberry cheesecake had a baby.

Health Benefits of Eggland’s Best Eggs

I highly suggest using Eggland’s Best eggs especially when you are on the Ketogenic Diet. Eggland’s Best are called that because when compared to ordinary eggs they are just that: the best.

The nutritional content of EB eggs far surpasses that of most store-bought eggs.

This is exceptionally important to take note of when you are following a Keto Diet. Whenever you are omitting foods or entire food groups there’s a good chance that you won’t be getting adequate nutrients in some form.

When following a Keto Diet it is important to take certain supplements to keep your nutrition well-balanced. Many people who follow a Keto diet are not getting enough vitamin D or vitamin E.

That’s where EB eggs come in! Compared to ordinary eggs Eggland’s Best eggs contain 6x more vitamin D and 10x more vitamin E! Making them a perfect choice if you are looking to up your nutrition game through your diet.

The eggs are also richer in B12 and Omega-3 fatty acids when compared to ordinary eggs too! You can clearly see why I choose EB eggs, especially when following a strict Keto Diet.

The Benefits of Blueberries For Your Health

These small, delicious superfoods are packed with fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants to give your body a health boost. Blueberries are an excellent source of vitamin C that keeps your immune system strong, while their high levels of dietary fiber help your digestive system work correctly.

Not only that, but they also contain polyphenol compounds which research has linked with reduced risk of some cancers and improved brain power.

Plus blueberries are one of the most low carb fruits. I include them in a lot of my keto recipes like my most popular Chocolate Covered Blueberry Cheese Cake Fat Bomb.

How to incorporate mug cakes into your keto diet

Mug cakes have an important role to play in keto diets. Whenever you are craving cake, muffins, or just something sweet but following a low carb diet plan, have a mug cake. They will help keep you on diet!

You can make up your own recipes or find them online. They will usually consist of coconut or almond flour, eggs, some type of oil, and a healthy sweetener like stevia or monk fruit.

To add some flair to your mug cake creations, top them off with low-sugar options such as dark chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or even a sprinkle of monk fruit sweetener. Now you’re ready for some delicious guilt-free mug cake indulgence!
