Healthy Wrap Recipes for Your Lunchbox

Sometimes it’s hard to come up with creative lunches for the kids for school or yourself for work day after day. Actually, that even becomes hard when you’re staying at home! Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are delicious but sandwich after sandwich can become a drag.

Especially by the new year we are all scrounging the web for creative healthy lunchbox ideas and these wrap recipes are perfect.

In fact I have two wonderful posts detailing over 100 creative lunch ideas that you really should check out! You will never be at a loss for unique and healthy lunch box ideas again.

My kids aren’t big fans of sandwiches.

They never really have been. It took me five years to convince my oldest daughter to try a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. 5 years! Needless to say sandwich alternatives to lunch ideas are quite popular in our house.

Everyone in our house however does love healthy wraps! Whether you use a whole wheat flour tortilla, corn tortilla, leaf of cabbage, or iceberg lettuce, wraps are some of our family favorites! Wraps are so wonderful because they are as versatile as sandwiches, if not even more so. There are and endless array of ingredients that are absolutely delicious wrapped in a tortilla.

How Can I Ditch the Sandwiches and make some healthy wraps?

Adapting to wraps is so simple and versatile. This post about healthy wrap recipes will detail whole wheat wraps. If you are gluten free, corn tortillas make a wonderful alternative for many of these non sandwich recipes. Plus if you, or your kids are following a low carb or non GMO diet, the wrap (i.e. tortilla can be easily substituted with a leaf or two of iceberg lettuce or cabbage. Which is the route I personally take.)

Healthy Lunchbox Wraps are Easy.

With this list, creating healthy alternatives to sandwiches is so easy that you can easily please any palate. My family adores the Italian Pinwheel the best (yes, they are Italian and just can’t help it).

I’ve included a wide array of different flavors that I know will lead to your family developing their own personal favorite! Please let me know in the comments below which healthy wrap recipe was your family’s favorite!

Each of these recipes is strictly whole food and absolutely delicious.

**(OK so somehow in the midst of the busy and emotionally charged week my family has had I totally missed making this wrap. The photo will be up later though. It does not detract from the flavor at all! It might even enhance it.

  1. Love these wrap ideas! I’ve always made creative & healthy lunches for my daughter because she’s always preferred fruits & veggies over junk food. It gets tedious sometimes so I’m always looking for new ideas!
I’m curious to know if you do something to keep the avocado from turning brown before they get to lunch time? I’ve always avoided sending avocado, which she loves, because it browns so quickly. I know she would LOVE the avocado & black bean wrap!

    1. Thanks so much Kim! That is so awesome your daughter already loves healthy foods! So my tricks for getting the avocado in the wraps to not turn brown is either squeezing a bit of fresh lime on top if she likes that flavor (my kids don’t love it that way and it only halfway keeps it green) or I will mash up the avocado first with a bit of citric acid. Just have to be careful not to add too much or you’ll taste it… BUT it is super effective! I even use it in my guacamole.
