What is Baby Led Weaning?
Baby-led weaning (BLW) is an approach to introducing solid foods to babies that encourages them to self-feed from the very beginning. Instead of starting with purees or spoon-feeding, BLW allows babies to explore whole, finger-sized pieces of soft foods they can hold and bring to their mouths on their own.
This method promotes independence, fine motor skills, and a natural exploration of textures, flavors, and self-regulation of hunger.
It’s typically introduced around 6 months of age when babies show signs of readiness, such as sitting up unassisted, showing interest in food, and being able to grasp and chew safely.
This recipe does contain whole eggs so is best for babies over 6 months on that note as well. (When you’ve most likely introduced them.) You can always substitute the whole egg for two egg whites instead and it still turns out great.
What are Some Other BLW Breakfast Ideas?
There are lots of great baby led weaning breakfast ideas that you can add into baby’s diet right now! For another option for Valentine’s Day I really like these strawberry muffins for babies or toddlers. They turn out pink from the strawberries and look really pretty! Then for everyday try egg muffin recipes for babies and toddlers!
You can even make the muffins and the waffles and put them together on a stunning Valentine’s Day Breakfast charcuterie board for the whole family! Just remember the honey and blueberries aren’t baby friendly so just omit those two. I mean, you could cut the blueberries in half but mine are always so ripe that just makes a disastrous mess.
