Chocolate Hazelnut Holiday Bark Recipe
With everything going on this holiday season—wrapping presents, keeping the kids entertained, and somehow not losing your mind—you need a super quick and easy recipe that would still wow everyone. And guess what? This chocolate hazelnut holiday bark recipe is it! You only need a few ingredients, and it’s ready in no time, and is perfect for family movie nights, to gift to the neighbors, or bring to holiday parties. It’s sweet, crunchy, and has that perfect blend of chocolate and nuts.
Why You Need Chocolate Hazelnut Holiday Bark
Growing up, holiday bark was always a staple in our house. Every December, I remember my mom and I spending afternoons in the kitchen, melting chocolate, sprinkling on crushed candy canes, and letting the bark cool before we’d wrap it up in little tins for our neighbors and friends.
It was one of our favorite traditions, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve loved carrying that tradition on with my own kiddos. But as much as I love those nostalgic recipes, I’ve been experimenting with ways to make them a little healthier without sacrificing any of that deliciousness—and that’s how this chocolate hazelnut holiday bark came to be.
This recipe is a bit lighter and healthier than the classic versions we made when I was a kid. Instead of layering on milk chocolate chips and loads of sugary toppings, I swapped in semi sweet chocolate chips (alternatively you could use dark chocolate chips for even less sugar) topped with delicious hazelnuts to give it a naturally creamy, nutty flavor.
The result is a bark that’s still sweet and indulgent but made with ingredients I feel better about serving to my family. And the best part? It’s every bit as tasty as the traditional versions—my kids are obsessed with it!
They love helping me in the kitchen, just like I used to help my mom, and it’s become a sweet little holiday project for us every year.
If you’re a fan of hazelnut butter (or just hazelnuts in general), this recipe is perfect for you. The flavor of the roasted hazelnuts blends so beautifully with the chocolate, creating a balance that’s both rich and satisfying without feeling too overly sweet.
Whether you’re making it to give as gifts, serve at Thansgiving or Christmas, or just to snack on during holiday movie nights, I promise it’s going to become a new favorite. Plus, it’s so good that you won’t even miss the old sugar-laden versions!
How to Make Chocolate Hazelnut Holiday Bark
Ingredients:
- 2 bags (11 oz) of semi-sweet chocolate morsels (or you could use dark chocolate)
- 1/3 cup raw hazelnuts
Step By Step Instructions
First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then place the hazelnuts on a baking sheet and roast in the oven for 10 minutes.
Once they are roasted, remove the hazelnuts from the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes. Then place the hazelnuts in a kitchen towel and shake around, until all the skins fall off the hazelnuts.
Next you’re going to melt the chocolate morsels in the microwave in increments of 30 seconds, until fully melted. Since the microwave doesn’t cook evenly at all after each interval give them a stir. Be sure not to overcook or the texture gets all gross.
Then spread out the melted chocolate over the baking sheet, until it is spread out and even.
Spread out the hazelnuts over the chocolate.
Place the baking sheet in the fridge and let cool for at least 30 minutes. Then break into pieces and serve.
