If you are looking for a tasty high protein snack that is really healthy and easy to make, try roasted nuts or roasted beans. Both are delectable and there are so many options of not only nuts and beans to choose from but there are also so many flavors that taste good on them and so many different ways to roast them as well. In this post I’m gathering up some of favorite roasted nuts recipes and roasted beans recipes so you can have a crunchy tasty protein-packed snack any time.

Why Roasted Nuts Recipes are Fantastic

Of course 90% of the nuts that you buy in store are roasted and salted (unless you are specifically trying to buy raw) they taste different when you roast them at home.

You get more of a smokey/toasted flavor that is really irresistable and satisfying.

Another benefit of making home roasted nuts is that YOU have control over how much salt and sugar you use in the recipe if any. I include a lot of sea salt in my cooking but I much prefer cooking things myself where I have control over which type of salt and how much is in everything.

Same goes for sugar. When you purchase anything premade it’s awfully tough to take control of what ingredients are in your food.Especially in America and extra especially in 2024.

For instance, my family has always gotten smokehouse almonds at Walmart every month. Until late last year when suddenly they taste changed and my family equated the aftertaste to dogfood.

Not that my family is eating dogfood! But you know that lingering smell it has? That’s the aftertaste they were getting from the nuts. After a bit of investigation of the ingredients I realize there is suddenly a warning at the bottom: this product contains bioengineered foods.

Hmm. Interesting. First off, why the heck are they bioengineering our nuts (really I’m assuming it’s an oil they roast them in not the nuts themselves) but how interesting that shift actually changed the taste so much.

Needless to say, we switched brands after that and now are double checking ingredients even more carefully than before as it seems the ingredients are quickly changing a lot lately and not for the better.

So finding amazing home roasted and flavored nuts recipes made me very happy!

Why Slow Roasted Beans are Great Too

Slow roasted beans aren’t as much on everyone’s radar as roasted nuts are, but they are also a great protein packed snack! Of course the macros are a bit different, you will be getting more carbs and less fat than if you were eating roasted nuts, but there is absolutely a place for that!

Nuts are great for you, but even good things need to be eaten in moderation. Beans have a much lower calorie and fat content, making snacking on them a little more forgiving in that department.

If you haven’t tried roasted beans, give some of these recipes a try and I bet you will begin to include them in your diet regularly!
