How This Mango Mojito Mocktail Recipe Came to Be

It all started one summer evening when I was eight months pregnant and craving a cocktail. But of course, that was going to be a hard pass for a bit more… so what was I to do?

Well, I mosied outside with my two girls and set up the sprinkler for them to play in while I tended to the garden, really craving something more special to drink than my bubbly La Croix, which usually hit the spot when I wanted something fancy feeling to drink besides all the water being pregnant requires.

The herb garden was getting absolutely unruly so I began trimming back the basil and mint for the day. Suddenly something clicked, a mojito! I could blend together one of my bubbly drinks (which I always had on hand because nausea kind of went on forever throughout that pregnancy) with some of this mint and some other goodies from the fridge and make mocktail mojitos!

After the kids were done outside we went inside I took to the fridge for ideas. My fruits on hand were limited to oranges, bananas, and grapefruit I thought. But then I remembered I had some mangos on top of the fridge and when I checked — yes! They were finally ripe!

I grabbed a lime and lemon and after a few trial-and-errors I was able to come up with the perfect tropical and indulgent Mango Mojito Mocktail.

What is a Mocktail Anyways?

A mocktail is basically a cocktail without the alcohol. I think they’re fantastic for pregnant and breastfeeding moms, kids of all ages, non-drinkers, or just anyone looking to cut back on their alcohol intake. They are just as festive as traditional drinks and you get to really get creative with flavor combinations.

Some mocktails are just as unhealthy as their alcohol-filled counterparts, by being loaded with sugar, syrups, and other additives.

But, being that when pregnant I follow the top-of-the-line prenatal nutrition program called The Perfect Pregnancy Plan, I know that it’s not only important to limit or better yet eliminate alcohol while pregnant.

Everything you eat plays a direct effect on your growing baby’s genetic expression.

Eek! That’s powerful. Through following that amazing prenatal nutrition program I learned how detrimental too much added sugar can be to your growing baby, so I make sure to make all my mocktails not only alcohol-free, but also a healthier yet equally as tasty version of the cocktails they are mimicking.

Why Add Mango to The Mojito Mocktail Recipe?

Well first off, it was the most tropical flavor I had on hand at the time of creating this recipe.

But secondly, mango is so incredibly healthy and full of vital nutrients. Mango is packed with antioxidants, vitamins & minerals, and fiber. It also adds the perfect natural sweetness to the mocktail that really helps you forget about the missing alcohol. Well sort of. At least it makes it taste like a treat to indulge and wind down which kinda hits the same spot.
