How to Make a Keto Smoothie with Chocolate and Avocado

It can be extremely hard to craft a delicious low carb smoothie recipe for the Keto diet. This chocolate and greens smoothie is perfect for the Ketogenic diet as it’s about 6 carbs, contains healthy fat and protein, AND tastes delicious.

Why Eat Keto Friendly Smoothies?

Smoothies are a convenient and delicious way to flood your body with easily digestible nutrients all in one glass. It is very easy to include an array of antioxidant and nutrient dense foods all in one simple meal.

However when following a low carb diet, enjoying smoothies can be very difficult, if not seemingly impossible. When I was following a Keto or LCHF (low carb high fat) diet the thing I missed the most was smoothies. I love smoothies, and normally drink them every day.

Adding smoothies into your Ketogenic diet plan is important because the Keto diet isn’t often well balanced in nutrients. You are omitting almost all fruits and vegetables on the Ketogenic diet as most are very high in carbohydrates. To meet your daily fat quota while staying in range for calorie consumption, you may tend to leave them out completely.

If you have the right mixture of low carb ingredients, you can easily enjoy a delicious Keto friendly smoothie to have a cup full of nutrients you may be omitting from your diet, all in one glass.

What is the Ketogenic Diet?

The Keto Diet is a pretty extreme diet trend where you consume a very low amount of carbohydrates and an enormous amount of fat. The numbers of each macronutrient that you need to consume will be slightly different for each individual depending on your height and weight as well as other factors.

Personally, my Keto diet levels were at 21g of carbohydrates per day and 144g of fat per day. This does sound like a huge amount of fat to anyone, but you might not realize this is such a small amount of carbs until you realize that 2 apples will knock you right out of ketosis. A typical morning smoothie recipe will easily contain over 50 carbohydrates.

What are the benefits of the Keto diet?

The Keto Diet is insanely popular right now and for good reason! It helps your body to switch gears to an entirely different way of creating energy. Instead of using glucose (stored sugar from carbohydrates) for energy, your body begins burning fat for fuel. At state called Ketosis. Being in Ketosis holds many positble benefits including:

  • Weight Loss
  • May help reduce risk of cancer
  • Aids acne
  • May protect brain functioning
  • Improves heart health
  • Improves health in women with PCOS
  • Potentially reduces seizures

There is also reports of the Keto diet enhancing energy, mind clarity, decreasing varicose veins, and aiding in menstrual discomfort.

When following a strict Keto Diet I drank no smoothies. Which was the absolute hardest part for me.   • This smoothie is an easy dump and blend recipe! It couldn’t be simpler.
  • Feel free to add 2 scoops of protein powder to increase nutrients if your daily carbohydrate allotment allows.
  • Add ice and blend well after adding all other ingredients for a thicker texture.
